Welcome to another place on the internet where I can shill for my favorite product on the market, ME. I’m a connoisseur of a few things… Beer, strip clubs, and Bruins hockey come to mind. Seriously, give me a city and I’ll tell you where to get a lap dance. Those that know me know a few of my favorite words, but I’ll do my best to keep my potty mouth in check when the little red light is on. There are two guys that are extremely influential in me being on the radio, but you’ll have to linger longer for that story. If you want to know more, just use one of the 18,000 ways to get in touch with me and ask. Of course all those ways can be found over at mikewendt.com. Sorry folks, you won’t find any porn there… Just more silly goodness from me. SEEYA!
Q & A with Mike Wendt
1. Name your favorite TV shows or movies…
My DVD collection is well over 1000 deep (including every Elvis movie ever made). So picking a favorite would consist of at least an hour long conversation spanning genres, moods, and locations. Call in and we’ll have it some time. But a short list of go-to flicks would have to be, The Big Lebowski, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Bachelor Party, Slap Shot, Used Cars, Sexy Beast, and a laundry list more… As far as TV goes, the stuff I fill my DVR with is The Shield, Lucky Louie, South Park, Fawlty Towers, Arrested Development (I created a drinking game to this one), Insomniac with Dave Attell, Monty Python, Peep Show, and much more… I’m a huge fan of British comedy.
2. What has been your biggest request line nightmare?
A guy wanted me to fill his dying mother’s last request with some obscure live, bootleg, 27min version of Free Bird she had heard back in the ‘80s on cassette. And even though I played Free Bird (the album version), they continued to call screaming at me that “I was killing her.” That was a fun 7 hours… Well they actually only called for 5 hours… Must’ve found that tape around hour 6.
3. What would your advice be for someone who wants to get into radio?
Of course you’d come to me for advice, mine always works… Like the time I convinced a girl that she should call out of work and do Amateur Night @ a local strip club. I think the end result was her walking out with $12 and an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness. But since you asked… Find a very flexible way of supplementing your income, like stripping for example... Also, you should record everything! You never know how it might benefit you in the long run. And my final nugget of knowledge, for all of you dreaming of radio stardom… Nobody actually gives a [poop] what you have to say, so don’t feel like everything you put out there has to inform the masses of something important. We wear shorts & sweats to work folks, we’re not exactly curing AIDS. If you’re still feeling unsatisfied, tune in and I’ll personally make you feel like a lovable dog that just got their ear scratched…
4. If you weren’t in radio what would you be doing?
Editing feature adult motion pictures in a dark basement somewhere, while writing my epic screenplay. Yeah, I know a few folks in that industry too.
5. What do you do when you’re not at ZLX?
Well when I’m not at home yelling at my TV during some weird, nude, drunken VH1 Celebreality Marathon… I can usually be found occupying a seat at various bars, strip clubs, and Bruins games. What a shock that those all involve drinking too. I’ve also been known to take random trips to Montreal for some more bars, strip clubs, bandwagon Bruins games, and one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had at Eggspectations.
6. Tell us something that no one knows about you…
I've played hockey on the ice of the Boston Garden, Montréal Forum & Colisée de Québec. I’ve also been an actor for around 20 years and have had the privilege to be in films with such A-List talents as Denzel Washington, Alec Baldwin, and Bob Kelly. |
