“The Live Anthology” Box Set Tom Petty is celebrating his 30-year past with one of the best live rock bands ever this November 23rd when he releases his new 48-track box set.
We’ve been playing several songs at WZLX and the live versions sound great – and why wouldn’t they since Tom has chosen the best out of dozens and dozens of live concert recordings the Heartbreakers have put in the vaults over the years. The version of “Refugee” from California in 1983 is stellar as well as “Even the Losers” which goes all the way back to 1980 from a show at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. Chuck Nowlin loves the “Nightwatchman” from the L.A. Forum in ’81 and that location also yields one of my favorites – “A Woman in Love.” Subscribers at tompetty.com have already been receiving digital downloads of the “Live Anthology” tracks, but the physical 4-CD sets are coming to stores.
Then there’s the Deluxe Box set which is just sick – check this out: 5-CD’s of live music (62 tracks), a 1995 tour documentary on DVD, a 1978 Santa Monica concert on DVD, a re-mastered vinyl copy of Tom’s 1976 “Live Leg” album (which was recorded, incidentally, at the now-defunct Paul’s Mall/Jazz Workshop on Boylston Street right here in Boston) and a booklet, etc, etc. There’s even a 5-record Vinyl Deluxe box set for you tone-arm freaks.
Stay tuned to WZLX as we give away copies of the 4-disc box set, digital downloads and qualify you for one of those Deluxe babies!
